Job Description
Job Summary


The Physician Office Specialist should be knowledgeable and flexible in performing any major function within a physician practice.These activities include but are not limited to receptionist duties, charge posting, closing end of day, pre-certifications, maintaining medical records, performing Medical Assistant (MA) duties, and training other staff for the above functions.Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card before providing direct patient care. Coordinate with other care team members to provide exceptional patient service.


Physician Office Specialist Minimum Qualifications


Education: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years experience Or associates degree and one year experience.


Experience: Prefer 1 year MA experience.


Licensure/Certification: Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Efficient data entry skills, pleasant interpersonal skills, ability to sort and file, ability to balance charges, payments, deposits at end of day. Additionally, flexibility and versatility are a must.Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.Strong patient-centered focus.Effective verbal and written communications skills.Ability to work as part of a clinical team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Ability to organize and manage competing priorities.Ability to problem solve and show good judgment.Ability to speak clearly and concisely.Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.


Contacts: Physicians, coworkers, and patients, involves dealing with ill/injured people and servicing a population from birth to end of life.


CMA Minimum Qualifications


Education: High school diploma or equivalent.


Experience: Completion of a Medical Assistant Training Program or at least 1 year of medical assisting experience required. Prefer 1 year of clinical experience.


Licensure/Certification: Current Certified Medical Assistant Certificate or Registered Medical Assistant. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Knowledge/Skills: Strong patient-centered focus. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Ability to organize and manage competing priorities. Ability to problem solve and show good judgment. Record vital signs, patient’s chief complaint, performing ekg, etc. on all patients at every visit according to practice protocols. Phlebotomy skills preferred. Basic skill with computer keyboard, data entry functions and various software programs, e.g, Word and Internet applications. Knowledge in area of medical terminology. Basic skills with computer keyboard, data entry functions and various software programs i.e.: Word and Internet applications. Clear verbal and written communication skills as well as customer service excellence.


Other: Administer medications, injections and immunizations under supervision of RN, APP or MD
