Job Description

:

The Mobile Phlebotomist is part of a group of Caregivers who travel to provide phlebotomy services to patients in settings such as contracted care facilities, patient homes, and health fair settings. They also serve as a member of the Outreach phlebotomy team within Intermountain facilities. This position is responsible to accurately and compassionately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional, medical environment. They communicate closely and frequently with other members of the team, checking in throughout the day. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

Job Essentials

The Mobile Phlebotomist safely travels to contracted facilities and/or patient homes to perform specimen collection using many different techniques and utilizing various levels of personal protective equipment. These caregivers compassionately communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrate empathy during every interaction.

Mobile Phlebotomists are skilled and highly competent as they operate independently with little or no on-site support for difficult collections. These caregivers are expected to provide an excellent specimen collection experience for patients in remote locations.

Duties for this position include: maintaining accurate patient logs, monitoring patient scheduling systems, and patient registration. They may also assist with training and mentoring new staff, preparing and processing specimens, participation in special projects, accurate and timely record keeping (e.g. patient records, mileage for reimbursement) and other laboratory responsibilities as required by site.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Willing to participate in on-call shift coverage, according to department needs. Willing to float to other locations or sites as needed for site coverage.
  • Current driver's license, insured and reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
  • High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • Flexibility to work various hours, shifts, and days of the week that may include weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Willing to cover draw sites after completing draws at care facilities, home draws, or health fairs.
  • Willing to communicate with the phlebotomy team on a personal mobile device.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Self-motivated and experience working independently.
  • Detail oriented to complete accurate, efficient, and effective service and work product.
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment that may include stressful situations.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • One year of phlebotomy experience with Intermountain Laboratory Services.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

Physical Requirements

  • Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents.
  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • Expected to drive a vehicle for long periods, which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
  • Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds from the ground to waist level.
  • Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart.
