Job Description
Position Summary


The Pharmacy Technician (Non-Certified) provides pharmaceutical services to the patient under the supervision of a Certified Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacist to the extent dictated by state and federal laws. Assists the pharmacist in the tasks of drug procurement, preparation and distribution, billing functions, as well as other assorted tasks that contribute the overall function of the Pharmacy Department.


Duties/Responsibilities


  • Performs pharmacy billing functions.
  • Exhibits knowledge of drug nomenclature, dosage forms, storage requirements, pharmaceutical calculations and pharmacy law as it pertains to the role and function of a non-certified pharmacy technician.
  • Exhibits skilled aseptic technique in handling of sterile products.
  • Exhibits sound judgment as to the tasks they are permitted to perform by law, and when to refer/defer to a certified pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
  • Assists the pharmacist in monthly inspections of patient care areas.
  • Reviews and removes outdating drug products from the inventory during monthly inspections of assigned area in the pharmacy.
  • Documents workload activities as requested to support department managerial functions.
  • Participates in the quality control functions of the department as provided in departmental policy.
  • Restocks patient care areas with designated drug products as set forth in departmental procedures.


Required Skills/Abilities


  • Must possess general computer skills and utilize various pieces of pharmacy equipment.


Education


High School Diploma or GED or currently enrolled in high school working towards completion within 12 months of employment.


Experience


Will provide training on-the-job or alternative training in allied health field is acceptable.


Licensure/Certification


Registration with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy as a technician must be obtained prior to start date.
