Duties and Responsibilities
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.
- Assists the client to complete personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, etc.)
- Assists the client to and from the bathroom or with bedpan/urinal routines.
- Provides proper care and observation of the client's skin.
- Assists the client with food, nutrition and diet activities.
- Assists clients in moving around the living quarters and transferring from beds, chairs, and other similar locations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Reminds the client to take his/her medications at a specific time.
- Assists with purchasing food, clothing and other items needed for the client's care.
- Completes reports of care provided to clients.
Job Specifications
- Knowledge of the proper techniques for the care of sick or elderly clients.
- Ability to complete reports.
- Skill in the application of proper techniques for the care of sick or elderly clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- This position requires some physical effort assisting clients in moving around the living quarters and to and from the bathroom, and transferring clients from beds, chairs, and other similar locations.
Work Category
Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Possession of a current State of Florida Certificate of Nursing Assistance (CNA); AND
- Completion of the ninth grade; AND
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.

- Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to:
- Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)
- Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
- Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
- Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
- Possess the necessary job-related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL)
