Job Description

PC Support Technician

Information Technology Department

PC Support Technician:

  • Advise personal computer coordinator when upgrade is necessary.
  • Refers user to appropriate course of action when problem is outside the scope of Information Technologies service (i.e.: hardware or software problem that requires the services of an outside vendor.)
  • Assists with licenses of software products.
  • Logs user requests for assistance to determine educational and training requirements for user areas.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of Local Area Network hardware and software.
  • Maintains informed of technology trends via Internet publications or magazine subscriptions.
  • Assists with documentation of systems and user instructions when required.
  • Tests hardware and software on new personal computers prior to delivery to user area. Ensures that order is delivered ready to use.
  • Attends training and educational classes on advances in technology.
  • Monitors network traffic volume and capacity. Insures network efficiency and integrity.
  • Supports Windows Operating System, Novell Software, Microsoft Office Software and other applications supported by the Information Technologies Department.
  • Ensures that automatic backups of networks is working properly.
  • Responds to user requests for assistance with personal computer hardware problems.
  • Provides support to local and wide area networks supported by Saint Peter's University Hospital.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots problems with personal computers, Local wide Area Networks and other hardware. Determines cause of problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory of decentralized computer systems.
  • Keeps abreast of rapidly changing technology.
  • Answers questions and provides assistance related to software applications supported by the Information Technologies Department.
  • Assists Personal Computer Coordinator as needed.
  • Provides support to personal computer users in the Hospital.
  • Informs IT management of potential problems that were observed while performing duties.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work closely with other team members, and independently
  • Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot computer hardware and software
  • Experienced use and support of Microsoft Windows OS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Competent in Microsoft networking including TCP/IP and wireless technology
  • Certification: A+(hardware), Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Tech. (MCDST), HP Laser jet Printers repair/maintenance, Microsoft Office Support, Outlook Client support, Mobile/PDA device support and any Citrix.
  • Customer service oriented able to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Must be able to lift general computer equipment: desktop computers, monitors and printers.

Schedule: onsite, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. On-call availability
