Patient Care Technician - Main Operating Room, Team 3 Orthopedics

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Patient Care Technician - Retractor Holder for the Orthopedic Team (Team 3) in the Main Operating Room. This position will perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Set up rooms for patient admission.
• Hold retractors for orthopedic total joint procedures
• Turn, position and ambulate patients.
• Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair.
• Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
• Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit.
• Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
• Assist with preparation of patients for surgery
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (i.e., dressing changes).
• Transport equipment, specimens and supplies.
• Perform basic CPR as required.
• Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing.
• Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients.
• Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure.

Schedule: rotating four, 10 hr shifts M-F. Extension of shift 1x per week
