Position Details: Hyperbaric / Wound Care Center Full Time Day Shift 7AM - 3:30PM No weekends / No holidays Description:
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Patient Care Technician is responsible for performing non-licensed patient care in accordance with established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies.This position is a non-licensed/certified staff member authorized to transport and/or stock medications to meet specified essential job duties. This includes staff who do not have the authority to prescribe, dispense and/or administer medications. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities: % of Time Spent

1. Patient Intake: 40%
Reponsible for assisting patient to room, obtaining weight, taking vitals, assisting nurse in obtaining pertinent medical history and entering these into Electronic Medical Record Removing dressing to effected area, preparing the exam room for the nurse and assisting nurse to position patient for best visualization of wound and taking pictures.

2. Cleaning and disinfectant of room upon patient discharge: 40%
Clean all surfaces and non-disposable equipment with hospital approved disinfectant. Remove all trash and biohazard trash. Restock any necessary supplies that may be needed for the next patient. Dispose of all sharps.

3. End of the day: 10%
Restock all exam rooms as needed and at the end of the day. Give stock order to the program manager weekly and as needed.

4. Assist Operations Assistant: 5%
Responsible for assisting Operations Assistant with sceduling next visits and any additional testing needed. Assist with patient transportation as needed and taking cultures to the lab.

5. Glucose monitor: 5%
Assist nurses and Respiratory Care Practitioner with daily Point of care (POC) testing and end of day transfer of data. Performs other duties assigned.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of orientation classes as deemed by education.
In order to be eligible you must have one of the following:
  • Have previous documented experience as a nurse assistant, EMT, or Surgical Tech in the past 3 years.
  • Completed a professional or practical nursing program outside of the US and are awaiting license examination in the US.
  • Completed fundamentals clinical at least by 90 days of employment.
  • Have completed an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel program in Missouri in the last 3 years.
  • CNA certification.
OR
  • Must be able to complete the required classroom and clinical education within 90 days of start date.
Experience:
1. May be required to rotate shifts because of hospital’s 24 hour per day 7 days a week operation.
2. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed.
3. Able to address specific age related needs of the patient. Nursing divisions may provide care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric adults.
4. Current certification in a Basic Life Support required or course will need to be completed during orientation classes, prior to working on the nursing divisions.
5. Maintain Safe Medication Handling competency.
COMPETENCY WILL BE VALIDATED AT LEAST ONCE EVERY THREE YEARS. STANDARDS DENOTING AN ANNUAL OR MORE FREQUENT COMPETENCY VALIDATION ARE LOCATED IN THE SCOPE OF PRACTICE. COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL SAFETY PROGRAMS ARE REQUIRED ANNUALLY. PARTICIPATION IN A BLS, IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO YEARS.
