About the role

Saheli seeks a part-time Arabic-speaking Bilingual Domestic & Sexual Violence Advocate. This is a 20-hour per week position to provide crisis intervention and advocacy services to Arabic-speaking survivors of domestic violence. The advocate will support and assist individuals who have experienced abuse within the Arabic-speaking community. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of survivors and help them navigate the complex systems they may encounter such as legal, housing and mental health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Crisis Intervention: Responding to crisis situations including emergency calls and walk-in clients, providing immediate support to survivors. This may involve safety planning, risk assessment, accompanying survivors to the court and connecting with appropriate resources. Being fluent in Arabic and English allows you to effectively communicate and support survivors who may have limited English proficiency.

Advocacy: Acting as a liaison between survivors and various institutions and organizations including law enforcement, courts and social services.

Assisting survivors in developing personalized safety plans and long term strategies for achieving independence and healing. This may include coordinating services such as housing options, legal aid and job training within the Arabic speaking community.

Emotional Support: Offering a compassionate and non-judgemental space for survivors to share their experiences and emotions. You may provide basic counseling, facilitate support groups and offer referrals to mental health professionals who are culturally sensitive.

Outreach and Engagement: Conducting outreach community initiatives with the Arabic speaking community to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence, its impact and available resources.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, services provided and progress made.

Professional Development: Keeping up-to-date with current research, best practices and participating in training programs/workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge of culturally appropriate interventions and resources.

Qualifications:

●Fluency in Arabic and English is a requirement for this position

●Bachelor's degree a must, with 1-2 years of related experience a plus

●Commitment to working with survivors of domestic violence from all backgrounds

●Commit to complete a 40-hour comprehensive domestic violence training upon joining; documentation of similar training at another organization may partially fulfill this requirement.

●Strong interpersonal skills with an open and flexible attitude

●Willingness to work at flexible hours, some evening and weekend hours

●Social justice minded

●MA driver’s license and a reliable transportation
