    General Description

    Entry level position performing semi-skilled manual labor in connection with general maintenance, camping areas, and upkeep of grounds, facilities, and buildings. Performs routine duties under limited supervision for parks and special events at facilities.

    WORK SCHEDULE IS MOSTLY EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS


    Essential Job Functions

    Operates and assists with light-duty construction, renovation, modification, installation, and repair of buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks and all other necessary facilities in Pasco County and cleanliness of grounds and facilities, as well as maintenance of equipment required in the performance of duties.

    Keeps apprised of monthly events, via reservation software, and coordinates scheduled activities with public's use of the facilities to ensure the enjoyment of all involved. Cleans, mows, edges, trims, and generally maintains grounds, recreation areas, beaches, plants, prunes, and trims bushes, shrubs, and trees. Places and removes sod and other landscape materials. Assists with watering, spraying, and fertilizing. Assists with inspection and maintenance of all site amenities and natural resource management.

    Cleans and performs various custodial duties within buildings and facilities, including emptying trash and cleaning restrooms. Assists with basic building maintenance such as painting, repairing doors, changing A/C air filters and light bulbs. Assists with monitoring and maintaining operating supplies.

    Assists with public relations, including enforcement of rules and regulations and providing information. Assists in providing outdoor recreation and environmental education programs. Assists with maintaining basic written records, data collection, and reports pertaining to daily and weekly activities. Helps keep supervision and administration informed orally and in writing.

    Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural and historical and archeological facilities and resources are used for the enjoyment of the visitor. Ability to learn and implement natural resource management techniques. Performs related work as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to use hand tools and to operate light-duty construction/maintenance equipment in the performance of basic construction and maintenance activities.
    • Knowledge of general methods of maintaining grounds, camping and buildings.
    • Ability to convey basic information orally and in writing.
    • Ability to deal courteously and respectfully with the public.
    • Knowledge of the methods and tools used in this work.
    • Ability to understand and carry out general oral and written instructions.
    • Skill in the use of hand tools utilized in basic construction/maintenance activities.

    Minimum Requirements

    PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, and walk frequently. Ability to perform manual labor duties outdoors, sometimes under adverse conditions. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of experience in general facilities and maintenance.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a Florida valid driver's license.
