Job Description
Full-time nights, days or 24 hour shifts available. Pay starts at $24.05/hr but increases with experience or Critical Care license. ** $2,000 sign on bonus for full-time.


SUMMARY: Responsible for the performance of emergency vehicle and patient care functions in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, statutes and regulations, as well as company policies and local medical protocols. He or she performs work and participates in the basic and advanced life support procedures performed on an emergency medical response and/or transport.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Cleans vehicles and patient care compartments and maintains stations in a neat, orderly fashion
  • Prepares medical reports and invoices of runs made by the crew
  • Helps in performing routine maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment in conjunction with completion of medic unit checklist
  • Ensure daily customer happiness
  • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned
  • Examines patients and reports medical conditions to emergency department personnel
  • Reports vehicle and equipment malfunctions to the Control Center and/or appropriate supervisor
  • Participates in the delivery of patient care
  • Attends training sessions as required to maintain certification
  • Assures that the medic unit is completely stocked, clean, and in good running order at the beginning and end of each shift


Qualifications/Skills & Knowledge Requirements


  • Exceptional knowledge of emergency care procedures
  • Must take and pass pre-employment medical interview/test
  • COVID-19 Vaccination highly encouraged
  • Demonstrate the ability to think and act quickly in stressful situations
  • Must complete all new hire training
  • Must possess current Paramedic license issued by the state of Michigan
  • Must obtain a pediatric certification, such as EPC, PALS, or PEPP
  • Ability to prepare detailed written reports
  • Must maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with fellow crew members, police, fire, and the general public
  • Exceptional knowledge of city streets and traffic regulations
  • Must pass all Life EMS pre-employment requirements as outlined on the Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be certified and current ACLS
  • Must be interviewed by the Director of Operations or designee
  • Exceptional knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology
  • Must possess current BLS CPR card
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Considerable skill in the application of emergency care procedures and equipment
  • Must pass local medical control authorization requirements
  • Must obtain a trauma certification, such as PHTLS


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance visions, color visions, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The associates must also do the following:


  • Sit and drive using frequent wrist motions and forward reaches
  • Ability to wear particulate respirator
  • Lift, push and pull stretcher to load and unload 150 pound patient (with assistance of one other Paramedic)
  • Push and pull wheelchairs while ascending or descending stairs with 130 pound patient
  • Lift and transfer loads up to 150 pound (with assistance of one other Paramedic)
  • Walk, climb stairs, carry medical equipment up to 70 lbs
  • Please note that Life EMS tries to accommodate all schedules, but as an EMS agency, you may be required to work shifts outside of your requested availability so we can assist our patients and communities. This may include days, nights, weekends, or holidays.
