The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, New Hampshire Hospital has a full-time vacancy for a Painter.

SCOPE OF WORK: Skilled work at the journeymen level in painting and finishing surfaces of buildings and other structures and equipment with paint, varnish and other coating materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of high school or G.E.D. equivalent and a standard apprenticeship. An Associate's degree in a related area may be substituted for the apprenticeship training.

Experience: One year's experience as a painter. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. License/Certification: None required

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:

Thorough knowledge of standard practices and processes of the trade and of paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, enamel, solvents and other materials used in painting. Thorough knowledge of preparing surfaces for paint and skill in mixing paints, matching, blending, harmonizing and contrasting colors, tints and shades in the application of paints and other finishes by brush or air-gun. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade and ability to work from scaffolds. Ability to understand and execute oral and written orders without immediate supervision. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Performs varied skilled duties involving painting in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

  • Prepares work using sanders, burners, scrapers, sanding machines, taping, and spackling tools.

  • Keeps records of time, supplies and work.

  • Performs spray painting of automobiles, trucks and other equipment.

  • Performs related work such as drywall taping, glazing, paper hanging, stencil lettering, signmaking and placement.

  • Other tasks as may be assigned, including but not limited to masonry, flooring, demolition, and serving as assistant to carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.

STAFF WORKPLACE SAFETY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs in compliance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Communicates with supervisors and co-workers on issues related to workplace safety and ergonomics.

  • Reports workplace injuries to supervisor immediately.

  • Attends training programs as appropriate.

TOTAL COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

  • Participates in the process of continuous quality improvement by supporting unit/department based quality improvement activities. Demonstrates commitment to customer service values in professional conduct and by promoting such values in assigned work area.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of paints, finishes, primers, and methods of application and surface preparation.

  • Willingness to work in a team setting. Communication skills and willingness to carry out oral and written orders, and convey needs to others, including the ability to co-ordinate with other trades.

  • Frequent physical effort demanded in performing work in varying climatic conditions. Physical ability to climb ladders, walk, carry tools, and position materials. Specifically, the incumbent must demonstrate the ability to lift a bag of sand mix weighing 80# from the floor to a 30 in. table, to climb a 10-ft stepladder and work at 12 ft height over a ceiling, and walk 200 meters carrying a 25# tool box.
