Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill a Painter and will typically work Monday-Friday with daytime hours.

Position Summary
The painter will be responsible to apply commercial/industrial interior and exterior paints, stains, epoxy, and caulks This includes preparing interior and exterior surfaces for painting by repairing, sanding, caulking, plastering etc. Duties may include working with other staff, advise on products, and applications.
Salary Information
The starting salary is $28.56 - $29.48 per hour, depending upon leave time selected. A 12-month probationary period is required. This position is represented by the Wisconsin State Building Trades bargaining unit.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.
All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether they are vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 80 pounds, climbing up and down and working on ladders, scaffolding, or hydraulic lifts, and working in enclosed or limited spaces. Applicants will be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be 18 years of age of older.
- Minimum of two year's driving experience.
Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years.
- An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.
- A suspension or revocation of the driver's license.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
- Formal recognition of Painter status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or some type of similar validation of journey level status.
- Evidence of at least 6,240 hours total of exterior and interior preparation and finish, paper hanging, decorating, spraying/rigging and care/use of tools and equipment including related instruction and safety procedures.
- Completed an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a painter.
- Experience prepping metal doors/frames and masonry.
- Experience working with epoxy, urethane, and latex paints.
- One of the following qualifications:
- Completed an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a painter.
- Formal recognition of Painter status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or some type of similar validation of journey level status.
- Evidence of at least 6,240 hours total of exterior and interior preparation and finish, paper hanging, decorating, spraying/rigging and care/use of tools and equipment including related instruction and safety procedures.
In addition, well-qualified applicants will have experience:
- Working with hand tools and piston pump paint sprayers.
- Working with plaster and drywall to patch holes and cracks with proper materials.
- In commercial or industrial painting.
