Job Description

BACKGROUND: Urban Strategies is a 501(c) 3 corporation founded in 1978. The mission of Urban Strategies is to empower residents in distressed urban core neighborhoods to lead healthy, prosperous lives in thriving, self-sustaining communities. Urban Strategies plans and implements Human Capital building strategies designed to end the physical, social and economic isolation of obsolete and distressed communities by: 1) creating an attractive mixed income community and 2) supporting former low-income residents in progressing toward self-sufficiency. Urban Strategies uses innovative approaches provide families with a broad and integrated set of supports as they make the transition to new housing and to economic self sufficiency. Urban Strategies also collaborates with other community organizations to increase the human capital-building assets in the revitalized community.


Job Summary
: Urban Strategies is seeking an Outreach Worker to connect with and engage a targeted group of residents in a community revitalization and Human Capital building program. The Outreach Worker will be responsible for sharing information with residents about the revitalization effort including programs, community-wide events and activities, and public and resident meetings. The Outreach Worker will support the case managers and the project manager in locating and tracking originally displaced public housing households and connecting them to a Human Capital program and to new housing. The Outreach Workers will interview residents and support the case management team with information gathering and the resident intake process. The Outreach Workers will also assist the Project Manager and case management team with other tasks as requested.


Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a database of individuals contacted outside of the resident caseload.
  • Assist with distribution of flyers, newsletters, and mailings.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Assist in networking with other agencies and community groups.


Qualifications
:

1. High School Diploma and some college preferred.

2. Experience in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office software.

3. Ability and commitment to handle privileged information in a professional and confidential manner.

4. Availability to attend evening and weekend functions as required.

5. Possession of a valid driver’s license and availability of automobile for use at work.

6. Ability to function as a team player in both internal and external relationships.

7. Strong communication skills.
