Job Description

Responsibilities
Accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes to medical records using coding systems, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and gather necessary information for accurate coding.
Keep abreast of coding updates, industry trends, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
Ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the medical coding process, supporting timely reimbursement and quality reporting.
Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Some college or additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Record Sciences preferred.
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
Prior coding experience of at least six (6) months preferred, but not required.
Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), RHIT Certification eligibility, or CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCP, or CCA certification required.
