Job Description

This position exists to effectively initiate, plan, execute, control and close projects assigned. This position exists to ensure the proper oversight and management of all aspects of assigned projects including integration, scope, time, cost, quality, staff resources, communications, risk and procurement while maintaining quality standards, controlling expenses, and following company policies and practices.


OSP Engineering and/or ISP Engineering experience a plus. Strong MS Excel skills and ability to facilitate and work with very large data tracking tools, MS Project experience is desired. Must have strong client management and interface skills (documentation and in person). Will interact with client management, contractor management and FARR management and staff.


Essential Job Functions

  • Identifies, tracks, monitors, and communicates project–related issues, scope changes, variances and contingencies that may arise during the implementation of projects. Facilitates solutions with the appropriate stakeholder(s).
  • Prepares as built drawings and files for use in ongoing OSP operations.
  • Prepares project reports for management, clients, and others as requested including creating ad-hoc reports and regularly scheduled project reports identifying trends and issues for management action
  • Drafts equipment wiring diagrams, schematics and other equipment layout designs as requested.
  • Follows defined PMO processes, procedures, & guidelines and proficiency with standardized project management tools.
  • Works with client(s), FARR staff and resources to develop project scope of work documents and project plans that include an analysis of benefit, cost, work schedule, and any related risks. Serve as the primary contact for all project related matters. Project Manager manages project from initiation to close.
  • While in field on inspection and/or staking activities, communicates corrective action items to Resident or OSP supervisor.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to assigned locations up to 50% of the time.
  • Prepares drawings and layouts for engineering, commercial and office project using CAD software.
  • Manage project update meetings both internal and external, publish meeting minutes and track completion of open items.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Creates staking sheets during pre-construction design activities.
  • Reviews and monitors project work to ensure that progress is within expected guidelines and is completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversees inspection activities for construction, aerial, buried, and right-of-way crew work to ensure construction jobs are completed in a timely and accurate manner and in compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Prepares detailed construction sheets, maps, and other related specification sheets for use in the planning, construction and/or installation of telecommunications equipment.
  • Responsible for project communications and collaboration with clients, senior management, project team members and stakeholders on an ongoing basis

  • Engineering Staff 2 and 3 - Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Knowledge of CAD principles and practices.
  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • Engineering Staff 2 and 3 – Knowledge of both aerial and buried construction processes and procedures.
  • Clarify, identify, and track requirements and issues, remove barriers, resolve minor project issues and escalate to immediate manager where required.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations for inspection and staking activities.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Engineering Staff 2 and 3 – Manage client expectations, anticipates operational and tactical risks and tracks them.

  • Engineering Staff 2 and 3 – Resolve all tactical project issues and escalate only strategic or emergency issues to FARR management.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in an engineering or project management position
  • At least 2 years of project management experience working in a lead capacity implementing projects in a field environment
  • At least 2 additional years of experience in a technical project management or engineering role
  • At least 4 additional years of project management experience working in a lead capacity implementing projects in a field environment
  • Engineering Staff 1

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in an engineering or project management position

    Engineering Staff 2

    • At least 2 additional years of experience in a technical project management or engineering role

    • At least 2 years of project management experience working in a lead capacity implementing projects in a field environment

  • Engineering Staff 3

    • At least 4 additional years of experience in a technical project management or engineering role

    • At least 4 additional years of project management experience working in a lead capacity implementing projects in a field environment
