Responsibilities*

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assists providers with the application, adjustment and removal of splints, slings and other orthopedic DME related appliances.
  • Oversees the orthopedic material stock levels and places orders to replenish supplies on an as needed basis.
  • Supports routine clinic care functions, including patient intake, discharge, and care follow up.
  • Applies and removes casts, changes dressings, and removes sutures/staples as directed by the presiding practitioner. The employee documents actions taken, supplies used, techniques utilized, related measurements, etc. in the patient's electronic medical record according to institutional policy and standards of care. Additionally, the employee will bill for services when clinically appropriate and according to expected institutional billing practices.
  • Partners with other members of the inter-professional team to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Assists with procedures such as (but not limited to) reductions, pin insertion and removal and other orthopedic related procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
  • Participates in regulatory readiness activities and quality improvement projects, as needed.
  • Provides patient instructions on how to care for casts and other devices and when to call the office.
  • This position will be required to cover other orthopaedic surgery clinics, as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Orthotics and Prosthetics team for bracing supplies.

Required Qualifications*

  • Completion of a Certified Orthopedic Technology training program preferred
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years? experience in a clinic and/or hospital setting
  • Strong organizational and people skills
  • Ability to take vital signs
  • Progressively responsible experience in the application of casts and wound treatment is necessary.
  • This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients
  • Thorough knowledge of Orthopedic nomenclature, anatomy, and disease process
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and other inter-professional partners
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively and take direction from multiple sources
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, day shift with variable start times.

Work Locations

CW Mott Children?s Hospital, Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic and other orthopaedic surgery clinics, as needed.
