Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania- 3400 Spruce St is looking for a full-time Optician to work in the Ophth Optical Services PCAM Department!!!


Summary: Facilitates an excellent experience for the Penn Optical customer by delivering high quality care and individualized service. Responsibilities: providing direct customer sales; participating in the selection of merchandise and inventory; managing all cash sales and insurance transactions per UPHS and departmental policies; and managing all aspects of accounts receivable.


Responsibilities: Merchandise and Sales Selects merchandise according to customer preferences, industry trends, price points, and sales data. Manages inventory to maximize sales. Develops ongoing relationship with eyewear and lens vendors. Manages quality of orders and customer satisfaction with sales. Knowledge of frame styles and changes in lens technology. Justifies frame selection based on customer preferences and demographics. Manages all cash sales per UPHS and departmental policies. Completes all insurance billing on a weekly basis. Participates in all marketing activities to drive optical sales. Takes initiative to recommend changes in processes, procedures, and sales strategies. Management: Personnel Provides ongoing development and training to auxiliary staff. Management: Reports Produces sales, inventory and any other ad hoc reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to monitor Penn Optical Operations. Management: Compliance Assures regulatory compliance with JCAHO, DOH and any other regulatory agencies. Optician: Customer Sales Provides direct customer sales. Enters all sales data completely and accurately in the Luxottica software at point of sale. Collects outstanding accounts receivable from patients prior to dispensing. Collect a 50% mandatory deposit on all non-insurance orders, and a required 100% deposit on all grant and insurance related eyewear sales. Place copy of sales order confirming balance in every job tray regardless of the type of order. Alerts staff of any outstanding balance by placing copy of sales order in tray. Maintains Penn Optical cleanliness and appearance for display of goods and equipment by cleaning display cases as necessary. Maintains smooth customer flow during hours of operation. Knowledgeable of specific requirements of the various managed care vision plans and government grant established program, i.e. Forsight and LSOCA study. Handles customer relations as related to Penn Optical. Provides Saturday coverage as part of overall hours (Radnor) and late Wednesday (Scheie and Radnor). Covers as the HUP Optician on an as needed basis for emergency coverage Provides each customer with Patient Satisfaction Survey with pre-paid mailing when available.

Credentials: Licensure is not required of an Optician in Pa. Certification by professional organization is required within one year of employment.


Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor degree preferred. Business, accounting, and/or finance coursework is a plus. Three to five years experience as an optician required.
