We are looking for a strong leader to drive the Optical Payload Design & Analysis group for optical instruments. This department provides the Optical Payload systems engineering function within payload IPTs (Integrated Product Teams) to deliver optical subsystems to the LOBs (Lines of Businesses).

As Manager, you will:
  • Work closely with Payload IPT leads and LOB leadership to understand mission drivers and key performance parameters. Fold emerging mission trends into current practices to ensure a discriminating edge.
  • Champion Optical Payload designs for active/passive optical payloads
  • Enable common usage of products across multiple applications in Space, thereby strengthening designs

Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience in the requirements development and verification of electro-optical hardware at multiple levels of technical maturity
  • Electro-Optical (EO) experience consisting of advanced optical/infrared material and coatings, and/or state-of-the-art sensors or advanced laser systems
  • Prior experience Zemax OpticStudio OR Code V
  • 10+ years of related technical experience
  • Proven technical and leadership abilities, with experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Current Top Secret clearance or equivalent
  • Experience designing and fabricating highly engineered (high TRL) optical systems
Desired Skills:
  • Experience in setting up alignment budgets, optical sensitivity analysis, and coating design
  • Strong mentoring skills and experience
  • Experience with remote sensing programs
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written with the proven ability to communicate
  • EO/systems engineering experience in optical sensor development, with hands-on experience in delivering hardware / products
  • Experience in developing high reliability space components or subsystems
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • Awareness of systems engineering analysis tools and techniques, and system modeling tools for active / passive optical payloads
  • Understanding of Military/DOD design methodology and standards
  • EO/IR (infrared) sensor system technical experience including performance modeling, system development, focal plane array physics, requirements generation, and/or signal and processing
  • Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve complex technical issues/challenges
  • Experience developing EO instruments/sensors for space or airborne environments

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $128,900 - $247,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $148,200 - $279,300. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
