Description


Summary of the Position:


The Operations Planning Engineer is a critical role within our organization, responsible for production scheduling, optimizing production workflow, maximizing productivity, and ensuring efficient resource allocation and utilization. The Operations Planning Engineer will play a vital role in coordinating the manufacturing processes from order to remittance; to ensure efficient production, accurate material usage, minimize downtime, and meeting customer demands. The person in this role will have expertise in planning, analyzing data, implementing process improvements and will be instrumental in driving operational efficiency, enhancing overall productivity, and ensuring customer “on-time in full” metrics are achieved.


Key Functions
  • Gather and review production data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate production efficiency, identify areas for improvement, and develop actions plans.
  • Partner with Customer Service and Sales teams to develop and update material specifications and blends in accordance with specific customer needs.
  • Lead Sales and Operations planning meetings to coordinate with department heads to establish priorities, report trends, resolve problems, and address any production bottlenecks.
  • Develop and maintain production plans, schedule, and capacity models, adjusting as needed to accommodate changes in demand or production constraints.
  • Distribute customer job packets to the production area prior to startup of all manufacturing workorders.
  • Monitor and analyze production capacity, lead times, and material availability to ensure accurate scheduling and timely delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and cost savings in production planning and scheduling.
  • Anticipate and urgently address any potential issues or delays in production schedules to minimize disruptions.
  • Generate and disburse reports on production schedules, capacity utilization, and material availability, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Engage Customer Service, Procurement, and logistics to coordinate with suppliers, customers, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and resolves any supply chain issues that may impact production schedules.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and inventory management teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and supplies to meet production requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and all relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards in production planning and scheduling activities.
  • Utilize plant MRP (IQMS) system as well as process knowledge of internal manufacturing practices to anticipate and resolve service level problems to enhance customer service and fulfillment.

  • Monitor inventory levels, track material usage, and work with procurement to initiate purchase orders to maintain optimal stock level while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, lean manufacturing techniques, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with production, sales, and customer service teams to develop a production schedule that meets customer demands, optimizes machine utilization, and minimizes production downtime.

Qualifications


Candidate Requirements:


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize and analyze large amounts of data.
  • 2+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, and material coordination, preferably in plastics blown film and film converting industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, and Kanban.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with Level Planning and knowledge of MRP systems (IQMS enterprise knowledge preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally. Conversational ability in English and Spanish desired.
