Job Description

Our team in Buffalo NY is looking for The Operations Manager to support ecological restoration and water quality projects in the state of NY.

Since our projects are carried out on an extensive geography, you will be traveling 3-5 times per month at least 2 hours away from your home base (per diem is paid).

The focus of the Operations Manager will be managing, hiring, and training an extensive team of 15+ people of different levels of seniority (Restoration Managers, Restoration Supervisors, Construction PMs, Construction Superintendents, etc.).

The job involves wearing several hats during the day, so the ability to be organized and detail-orientated is crucial for your success.

You will need the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people since you will also be supporting our sales and project management teams in the sales and business development efforts throughout NY and will be communicating on a regular basis with regulatory stakeholders and clients.

What your day-to-day might look like?

Besides team management, your main task will be to ensure the timely completion of the projects, focused on the following:

  • Bid preparation and supervision. Although supported by our Estimating department, you will succeed faster in your role if you have previous experience with construction estimating associated with restoration projects.
  • Review, implement, and provide feedback on construction and restoration plans during the design phase of RES projects – previous experience is highly desirable to ensure a better grasp of the role.
  • Hire/Identify subcontractors (including materials and equipment) and work with them through contract execution - Contract execution and negotiation experience will help you succeed in this task.
  • Support our Accounting and Finance department in developing project estimates and budgets.

Other duties might include:

  • Supported by our EHS department, enforce health and safety standards on all field operation activities.
  • Ensure proper compliance and documentation of all applicable permits, licensing, and supportive documentation.
  • Ensure accurate daily timekeeping and equipment utilization.

Qualifications

We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following:

  • Experience working on natural resource or water resource infrastructure projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of erosion and sediment control practices and ability to quickly learn regional E&S requirements.
  • 5 or more years working in field operations, civil construction, and ecological restoration.

What will make you stand out?

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in construction, ecological restoration, or agriculture concentration.
  • Prior experience with Heavy Bid or Bid to Win.
