The Gillings School’s Department of Nutrition is a global leader in research and training. We are the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. We engage in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools’ approaches to health, and thus our department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. Our faculty expertise spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to delivery. Our faculty and students work throughout North Carolina and reach populations in China, India, Malawi, Spain and the Philippines, to name a few.

The Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) and the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are jointly seeking applications for up to 4 tenure track faculty members with research expertise in nutrition and precision health. We welcome candidates who incorporate multi-omic and other integrative approaches to address critical nutrition-related health issues (with emphasis on cancer, cardiometabolic diseases, and brain health), and gain new insights into interactions between diet, other lifestyle factors, and individual characteristics that influence human health. The position is located at the UNC Chapel Hill NRI, which is part of the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC (2 hours west of Chapel Hill, near Charlotte). These are tenure track or tenured appointments at the assistant, associate, or full professor level depending upon experience, research and scholarly accomplishments. Applicants must have a track record of competitive grant funding from the NIH (or equivalent) and relevant peer-reviewed publications in high quality journals. The Nutrition Research Institute will provide an annual commitment of hard money as well as start-up funding.
These faculty hires will complement 20 multidisciplinary UNC faculty members who work at the NRI, a modern 125,000 sf facility with state-of-the-art labs and equipment, outstanding core animal facility, and an outpatient human clinical facility. The Department of Nutrition consists of interdisciplinary faculty members housed in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the School of Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill. The Department provides a broad training curriculum in public health sciences and offers courses in the physiological, biochemical and behavioral aspects of nutrition and their applications to improve the health of human populations. A PhD or equivalent in nutrition or another relevant discipline is required.

Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral and/or faculty-level experience and a track record that supports the potential to establish a visible, impactful, and extramurally funded research program.
