Welcome to Spring Lake Park Schools! We are a vibrant school community serving about 6,200 students from the suburbs of Blaine, Fridley and Spring Lake Park, in the northern Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. We are working to create a system - a culture with a methodology and set of processes - where teachers and staff have the freedom, flexibility, and invitation to design new ways of learning centered around deepening student engagement to continuously improve student success. It is through that culture of innovative and personalized learning that resulted in the creation of SLP Schools Online Elementary, which is a fully online school for students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 6. SLP Online at the elementary level provides a competency-based approach to learning, where students learn in a project-based, interdisciplinary manner to meet academic and life competencies that are aligned to state standards. This means that students progress based on their proficiency with competencies, rather than based on seat time or age. Learning experiences are co-designed between students, families, and learning advocates and are guided by student strengths, interests, and needs. Learning advocates meet at the beginning of each year with students and families to learn about the support that at-home learning coaches (e.g., parent, relative, co-op, etc) will need as they design learning experiences throughout the year. Family meetings occur biweekly to help design and review learning plans. Throughout the year, SLP Online Learning Advocates assess proficiency on competencies through projects, portfolios, and performance assessments, and collaboratively determine next steps in learning with families and students. The successful SLP Online Elementary Learning Advocate firmly believes ... ... all students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control ... in the need to work interdependently, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students ... in the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success ... in personalizing learning for students, meeting their academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success Primary Responsibilities The successful SLP Online Elementary Learning Advocate will create and foster positive relationships with students and families, coach students and their at-home learning coach on the creation of learning designs aligned to competencies and ensure student growth and mastery of academic and life competencies. Specific responsibilities include: Co-create learning designs with the at-home learning coach and student, and/or review and revise already created learning designs to ensure they align with SLP competencies Provide curricular resources, digital tools, and materials that students need to implement the learning design Provide coaching and support to at-home learning coaches to the extent needed by each family, such as assisting with schedules, learning environments, and learning strategies to successfully implement the learning plan Engage in student goal-setting to leverage student projects and learning experiences to demonstrate competency in multiple areas Monitor and maintain student portfolios and provide feedback for next steps in learning, using assessment for, of, and as learning Maintain consiste t office hours for family and student connections Provide \"just-in-time\" instruction to identified students as needed Organize and attend virtual and in-person field trips (where available) to support learning Preferences We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and families, have a creative and flexible approach to new ideas and new ways of working, have advanced skills in using learning technology purposefully, and communicate clearly in a supportive and encouraging manner with families, students, and colleagues. Qualifications The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree and hold current Minnesota State licensure in Elementary Education. Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills; highly effective interpersonal skills.
