Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning and providing occupational therapy for a temporarily or permanently disabled patient in accordance with professional and MLH standards of treatment.Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Displays sensitivity, compassion, and respect for people of diverse cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with peers, medical staff, patients/families and other constituents involved in patient care.
  • Must be able to organize home visit schedules and work without close supervision.
  • Knowledgeable of the system through which the child must move in order to obtain care.
  • Must have excellent skills in verbal and written communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution
  • Thorough knowledge of current theories and principles in field of specialty.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Performs initial patient assessments.
  • Identifies patient specific Occupational Therapy rehabilitation learning needs and provides appropriate education.
  • Implements patient treatments based on assessment and written plan.
  • Provides ongoing patient assessment through observation of patient and records.

Physical Requirements

  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
