DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
CHA’s Health Improvement Team (HIT) works together with healthcare providers, residents, community based organizations and city leadership to assess health status, determine priorities, build action plans and provide leadership around health issues that impact the community.
Summary:
The Nutritionist I provides nutrition care to high-risk women, infants and children under the supervision of the senior nutritionist, including all aspects of: · Anthropometric and hematological data collection
Responsibilities:
  • Follow-up nutrition education.
  • Dietary assessment, nutritional risk assessment and food package prescription.
  • Referrals to other health and social services
  • Nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education
  • Documentation and data entry.
  • Participates in planning, development and evaluation of educational materials and group nutrition education sessions.
  • Participant counseling and education strategies. Nutrition in-services and outreach activities, and nutrition policies.
oAssists senior nutritionist in:
oTraining paraprofessional WIC staff
oConducting quality assurance activities.
  • Provides nutrition care for low-risk applicants and participants as needed.
  • Communicates with health care community on issues pertaining to participant needs.
o Performs other duties as needed, including:
o Assisting in the training of Nutrition Assistant Is & IIs
o Quality assurance activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Good communications skills.
  • Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or licensure with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists, desired.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • One year's experience in clinical or community nutrition, preferred.
  • Availability to work at multiple WIC sites and during program clinic hours as needed.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the participant population.
  • Brazilian/Portuguese speaker, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, foods and nutrition, or nutrition education OR Master's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, food and nutrition,
