Full Time (40 hours)
Rotating shift, 5:00 am - 9:00 pm
Weekend work required
Exempt; Pay Grade: MA
Position Summary:
The Nutrition Clinical Supervisor implements the nutrition care plan as ordered by the physician and as planned by the clinical dietitian. Responsible for assisting with department cost containment and must be familiar and conscious of costs pertaining to office supplies, nourishments, and pharmaceutical. Supervises a diverse staff that are responsible for direct patient care and the preparation of snacks and complicated infant formulas. Also assists in scheduling effectively to minimize overtime and ensuring appropriate staffing levels. Empowered to make decisions impacting patient care according to departmental policy and procedures. (for example: offering alternative foods allowed on diets and changing trays as diet orders change).
Requires excellent communication skills to interact with medical staff, patients, family, nutrition staff and other Hospital employees. Requires strong basic math skills and reading comprehension.
Requires analytical ability to determine patient adherence to nutritional plans and dietary restrictions.
Ability to learn and operate general office equipment.
Must be proficient with personal computers and be able to utilize the department software programs.
Requires the ability to supervise a diverse group of staff
Work Experience:
Requires three to four months on the job orientation and on the job training to acquire necessary familiarity with departmental policies and procedures, computer programs, and diet therapy. Previous hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of clinical nutrition, food preparation services, and sanitation procedures.
Interpersonal skills for effective leadership of non-exempt and bargaining unit employees, and to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with department and hospital staff. Problem-solving skills necessary to deal effectively with routine and minor problems occurring within area of responsibility.
Ability to prepare simple reports (e.g. incident and attendance reports), perform arithmetic calculations, keep records, and supervise food service employees.
The analytical ability to schedule and coordinate work flow to ensure efficiency and effective operations
