Position Overview:

ZEST Prep seeks a school entry-level Nutrition Assistant to join its school-based support team. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, organizing, and serving breakfast, lunch, and other food items to children in a courteous customer service-oriented manner. Organize and set up equipment and workstations. Ability to learn food methods and cafeteria operations. Perform duties following health, food service, government, and other regulations and demonstrate proper equipment operation skills. We are looking for a Nutrition Assistant with a general knowledge of meats, multi-breads, vegetables, fruits, and other foods on a large scale—skills in using standardized and specialized utensils and equipment. The Nutrition Assistant shall be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and school staff.

This role will work on the schools support team and will report to the Director of Operations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Clean work tables, walls, floors, refrigerators, counters and equipment
• Participate in formal and informal training
• Turn on, test and monitor equipment at the beginning of the day
• Participate in marketing promotions and special events for students, adults and community
• Follow sanitation and health regulations
• Perform related work as required
• Exhibit the professional behavior of a reliable employee
• Properly stocks counter and carts with food, plates, utensils, napkins, and condiments
• Food preparation according to written and oral instructions
• Monitor food and equipment temperatures at all times
• Exhibit courtesy and understanding to staff and customers
• Receive, stock and rotate incoming and outgoing inventory
• Replenish food and maintain clean serving areas
• Setup and breakdown of serving areas
• Practice personal hygiene and proper sanitation procedures
• Operate computerized point of sale
• Perform preparation duties for the next day
• Serve breakfast, lunch and a la carte items
• Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices

• School based experience is highly preferred
• Ability to form relationships across the organization
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• $35,000 annually for the duration of the contract

• High School Diploma or General Education

[Experience]

• A valid unexpired Servsafe food handler's card or obtain this certification during the first six months of employment
• Prior food service or related field experience preferred

Some walking, moving, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to stand for long periods. Typically does not work at heights above ten feet. Typically does not lift any object weighing more than fifty pounds.
