Salary: $15.50/hr

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

  • Under the general oversight of the CCC Director of Nursing, the RNPD/DSD, and directly supervised by the NATP Nurse Educator/Instructor.
  • Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
  • Must work well with NATP Nurse Educator/Instructor/classmates, supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.
  • Students provide personal care to residents following resident’s Care Plan Approaches and report care provided

Position Duties/Responsibility:

(All skills must be learned in the classroom and return demonstration observed prior to performing independently)

  • Encourages and motivates residents to be out of bed, dressed, active, and to reach their highest practical level of self care and emotional well being.
  • Use infection control procedures based on Standard Precautions and follow Isolation Precautions.
  • Answers resident call lights per Standard of Care.
  • Applies restraints, supports, and pads to prevent falls, contractures and pressure sores.
  • Follows safe work and care practices to protect themselves, residents, visitors, and other staff. Uses proper body mechanics, obtaining assistance with transfers per care plan to lift or transfer residents, using gait belts, lifting devices, and applying proper restraints.
  • Maintain attendance, grades, and behavioral expectations as per NATP Policy.
  • To be able to prioritize and organize care to meet the residents needs in a calm professional manner.
  • Distributes meal trays from carts, cuts foods, assist/feed residents using established procedures, documents resident’s fluid/ food intake and picks up meal trays.
  • Provides all care tasks according to the residents Care Plan.
  • Assists in maintaining the resident’s room, closet, and other work areas neat and orderly.
  • Monitors each assigned resident for food and fluid intake and bowel and bladder output and records.
  • Assists in lifting, moving, transferring, and ambulating residents using transfer equipment or gait belt.
  • Performs or assists residents with personal hygiene using established procedures indicated. These may include bathing or showering, peri-care, dressing, hair grooming, and oral care.
  • Monitor for changes in resident’s status, including vital signs, level of physical activity, emotional well-being, cognitive ability, comfort or pain. Report these changes to the NATP Nurse Educator/Instructor, team leader, and CNA.
  • Follows prescribed programs of preventive skin care, recognizing symptoms of skin breakdown.
  • Assists residents with voiding and elimination.
  • Takes resident’s vital signs and records the data. Reports as needed to instructor.
  • Charts on each of their assigned resident’s Activity of Daily Living.
  • Collects specimens such as urine, and stool for laboratory analysis using established procedures based on the Standard Precautions and correct labeling technique.
  • Other duties assigned by RNPD/DSD or NATP Instructor.
  • Ensures prescribed snacks and supplements are offered.
  • Changes bedfast and chair-fast resident’s body position to maintain proper position/body alignment.

Essential Functions:

  • The ability to have positive personal interactions with NATP Nurse Educator/Instructor, classmates, staff, patients/residents, families and visitors.
  • The ability to read and follow the resident’s Care Plans.
  • The ability to work as a Team.
  • The ability to understand, speak, read, & write English.
  • The ability to be supervised
  • The ability to participate in resident’s ADL’s including lifting, bending and standing/walking for prolonged periods of time

Position Qualifications:

  • Skills/Ability: Be able to communicate effectively. Be able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate resident’s condition to NATP Nurse Educator/Instructor and other staff. Have sufficient strength and endurance to fully participate in resident lifting and transporting.
