Description of Job


BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION


This position reports to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and is responsible for supervising, coordinating, oversite, planning, and implementation of the Early Education Center programs consistent with the licensing guidelines of the state of Colorado to meet the linguistic, physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of the preschool children at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind.


Major Duties And Responsibilities


  • Maintain State of Colorado childcare licensure
  • Revise preschool enrollment paperwork and handbook as needed.
  • Positively serves as a team member and of the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) as a whole; and participates in regular team and departmental meetings, school and instructional meetings as required.
  • Develop trainings, brochures and other promotional/informational materials
  • Attend Childfind meetings, school intake meetings, school tours for incoming preschool students that are Deaf or blind.
  • Oversee Preschool budget and supplies
  • Attend student IEPs
  • Oversee and ensure open communication between preschool staff, families, providers and other departments.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned
  • Report on student data as requested
  • Participates in activities related to professional development and training/workshops as appropriate.
  • This position may require a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of students, families and program.
  • Oversee the collection of data to maintain accountability, including QRIS
  • Maintain staff and student files
  • Support teachers with curriculum, schedule development, planning and programming aligned with state and school expectations.
  • Facilitate preschool team meetings
  • Support teachers and therapists to ensure documentation is entered into the assessment platform
  • Ensure implementation of all preschool programs are consistent with the special education regulations, school policies and applicable state laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with the director of curriculum instruction and assessment around preschool and early childhood topics
  • Schedule, facilitate and monitor all preschool trainings.
  • Organize or support and attend family events
  • Supervise, lead, and evaluate preschool staff in coordination with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

Qualifications


  • Must have or be willing to attain basic braille skill awareness and awareness of best practices in instruction for student with blindness/visual impairments.
  • Master's Degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university, with specialization in Early childhood
  • Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Colorado, endorsed as a Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, or comparable endorsement certification
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Advanced (3) skill level as demonstrated through an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy / procedure.
  • 3 years of experience teaching early childhood
  • Must hold, be eligible for, or able to obtain within one (1) year from hire, appropriate qualifications to meet Colorado preschool licensure requirements, to include preschool Director

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply current standards-based educational and behavioral practices with students who are early childhood.
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
