Job Description
The position primarily involves full-time neuropsychological assessment from the office in Mount Laurel, with travel to additional sites depending on clinical needs. Referral sources primarily include outpatient neurology clinics and other physicians, as well as assessment of individuals who reside within Bancroft’s programs. The neuropsychologist provides supervision and mentorship to postdoctoral fellows/interns/students, as assigned. Other tasks may include engaging in/managing research projects, managing neuropsychological testing equipment, and lecturing in seminars, webinars, and community outreach. The applicant must be board certified eligible with the goal of achieving board certification in approximately 5 years for early-to-mid-career neuropsychologists. The applicant must be licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of New Jersey, and all levels of experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Works directly with assigned practicum students, interns, and/or postdoctoral fellows throughout the course of assignment in the assessment of outpatients and persons served. Provides daily advice and guidance to students, interns, and/or fellows and strives to increase their knowledge of discipline-specific methods and techniques.
  • Serves as a member of Bancroft’s various committees, contributing to staff and trainee learning, learning in the community (via webinars, talks, etc.), and provides professional development training to internal and external stakeholders on neuropsychological topics, as well as representing Bancroft at professional conferences/events, as assigned.
  • Participates in clinical research projects at Bancroft and/or by partnering with external stakeholders (e.g., academic institutions, rehabilitation providers, research collaboratives), as approved by departmental leadership and based on program priorities.
  • As needed, determines the need for therapeutic intervention, level of intellectual functioning, communication abilities, achievement performance, adaptive behavior, and other cognitive functions;
  • Conducts brief or full neuropsychological evaluations of persons served in the residential and day program as needed, monitors change over time, interprets behavioral data as needed, makes recommendations for rehabilitation therapy and staff, plans and develops goals that are clinically relevant, achievable, measurable, applicable within an individual's rehabilitation program.
  • Utilizes a system of documentation and billing practices that are professional, efficient, accountable, and conforms to federal and state regulations, as well as Bancroft policies and procedures, develops and maintains progress reports as needed, session note, treatment summaries, etc.
  • Provides reassessment, when applicable, focusing on targeted areas of need at established intervals for outpatients and persons served;
  • Maintains an awareness of current and changing trends, techniques, methods, and research in the field of neuropsychology and psychological therapy and treatments by attending learning workshops and professional seminars, reading journals, attending in-service workshops, external conferences in areas of specialty/clinical discipline, etc. Maintains license and completes required number of continuing education credits.
  • Provides coverage for treating rehabilitation psychologists or psychotherapy clients as needed, as well as possible supervisory coverage for trainees who are providing psychotherapy services
  • Provides consultative services as appropriate to the team regarding the neuropsychological results and recommendations.
  • Follows state-approved emergency procedures and utilizes Bancroft-approved crisis intervention techniques at all times.
  • Conducts diagnostic assessments with treatment recommendations for outpatients, as well as persons served in the residential/day program.
  • Conducts oneself in a manner of professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, honesty, fairness, personal integrity, and a respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, and privacy of others.
  • Conducts a full neuropsychological assessment, including clinical interview and standardized neuropsychological testing and scoring (including intellectual functioning, cognitive functioning across domains, achievement testing, adaptive functioning, psychological status, etc.). Writes comprehensive neuropsychology reports that include neuropsychological findings, behavioral observations, diagnoses, and recommendations. As appropriate, provides feedback to funding sources, physicians, other entities, and the patient and family
  • Provides direct psychological therapy, treatment services, and intervention if needed and based on the skills/experience of the employee, including individual and group psychotherapy and cognitive rehabilitation.
  • Communicates with staff and family members regarding recommendations and cognitive, emotional, physical, and behavioral needs and progress.
  • Provides crisis intervention, as needed, through counseling, de-escalation techniques, staff support, and assistance.
  • Reviews any prior assessments of outpatients/persons served, administers standardized testing, performs formal testing, performs clinical observations, conducts specialized screenings, interprets behavior data graphs and assessment results, and provides recommendations for service delivery;
  • Provides neuropsychological and psychological services in accordance with regulations, standards, and guidelines as defined by the NJ State Board of Psychology and Code of Ethical Practice, American Psychological Association (APA), Division of Developmental Disabilities, Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and established Bancroft policies and procedures.
  • Performs other direct service, consultative, assessment, and supportive duties specific to neuropsychology assessment, research, training, and possibly psychotherapy as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by rehabilitation needs.


Education & Experience


Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology required with current licensure by the State of New Jersey. Must be board certification eligible through the American Board of Professional Psychology for clinical neuropsychology. Board certification in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology encouraged/preferred. Early-to-mid career neuropsychologists expected to be board certified within approximately 5 years from date of hire.


Special Skills


Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood is required. Knowledge of psychosocial therapy techniques, educational development test administration and interpretation, and interviewing and psychological/developmental assessment skills required. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and standards pertaining to the provision of psychosocial services to disabled individuals required.


Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required with a strong desire to work with neurological populations. Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team required. Ability to implement crisis intervention techniques required. Attainment of CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification within the first 90 days of employment required. Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions. Minimum 18 years of age required.
