Job Summary

This position performs high quality EEGs (routine and video) and long term epilepsy monitoring. Has the ability to scan, correlate, and clip study information. Facilitates all aspects of study completion and reporting within the department. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all healthcare personnel. The Neurodiagnostic EMU Technologist II demonstrates a thorough knowledge of EEG/neurophysiologic identification in the EMU (EEG lab as needed) and remote locations in the hospital. Teaches and directs the work of other staff and students as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the manager of the EEG department. Takes call on a rotating basis. Assumes reponsibility for designated areas and procedures

Accountabilities

  • Extracts all relevant patient information from clinical history and progress notes.
  • Performs the intervention coordinated by M.D.20%
  • Provides education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding progress and procedure.10%
  • Interacts regularly with others involved in the patient's care to incorporate an interdisciplinary treatment approach for coordinated quality care.
  • Demonstrates awareness and use of proper safety measures regarding the patients, others in the treatment area and self.
  • Monitors and reassesses patient status in response to treatment and goal achievement.10%
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of EEG/ neurophysiologic identification in the EMU (EEG lab as needed) and remote locations in the hospital.
  • Adheres to the team/department for number of patients who can be monitored at a given time.
  • Perform and analyze results for M.D. review.
  • Implements and manages a specific and comprehensive treatment plan as directed by M.D.
  • Accurately performs ordered procedures appropriate for the patient.
  • Provides supervision/mentorship to new technologists.
  • Scheduling
  • Completes required workflow in EMR so M.D. can complete documentation in EMR system.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems that would impact the exam as well as the overall patient plan of care.
  • Complies with established standards of efficient scheduling to maintain appropriate technician to patient ratio.10%
  • Supervision/Mentorship
  • Department communications are clear, succinct with interdisciplinary team and contain pertinent and appropriate information regarding patient status.
  • Appropriate abbreviations and medical terminology is utilized per PH and ASET recommendations. 10%
  • Explains the process and procedure to the patient and caregiver.
  • Operates digital neurodiagnostic equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Documentation is in compliance with the chart review audit components.
  • Complies with departmental policies for documentation.
  • Performs appropriate LTMs, Routine EEGs and Continuous Monitoring
  • Demonstrates thorough working knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient medical emergencies and seizure onset.
  • Provides feedback on performance in a professional, tactful and beneficial manner via peer reviews.
  • Serves as a primary resource to clinical staff and assists them in refining their skills.

  • Completes charge and enters charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Facilitates new staff on completion of clinical competencies.

Education

Associate's Degree- Formal neurodiagnostic training

Experience

3 years- Neurodiagnostic experience

Licensure

None required

In lieu of

3 years of experience and a graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Training Program; OR 5 years of experience in the Neurodiagnostic Field
