Summary of position:
This position provides development and implementation support for natural resource programs and projects with a focus in outreach and education to external partners, and private landowners. This position supports content development, updates to program websites, brochures, checklists, project database, and other publications.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Required Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Restoration Programs, or related field; AND
  • Three years of support related work experience; OR
  • One year of support related experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies or Science, Natural Resource Policy and Planning, or related field; AND
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the work.
Preferred Education, Experience or Other Qualifications
  • Experience working for a government or nonprofit agency.
  • Two years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and other publishing software.

Driving Requirements
  • Category 2: Driver may operate a personal vehicle as an essential function for official County business. Any employee using a personal vehicle on official County business shall be required to maintain auto liability insurance, in addition to having a valid driver's license. If driving on county business the incumbent must meet and follow the Fleet Risk Control Policies to operate a motor vehicle on County Business.
  • The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment. The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:
    • Category 2: Driver may operate a personal vehicle as an essential function for official County business. At time of appointment, the successful candidate must:
  • Be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position and meet the qualifications and guidelines of the Fleet Risk Control Policies in the operation of a motor vehicle on County business.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

In this role you will have the opportunity to:


  • Support Shore Friendly Kitsap Program with scheduling, coordinating, and facilitating site visits with shoreline landowners, researching data needed for shoreline restoration sites, and collecting and documenting data and outcomes at site visits.
  • Work with Program Coordinator to support drafting of permit applications for shoreline restoration projects.
  • Develop outreach materials, tools, and opportunities including brochures, applications, checklists, and other publications as needed and in accordance with department and program standards.
  • Work with project sponsors to update existing program websites and project data bases.
  • Develop and implement communications plan with project and program managers.
  • Consult with internal and external customers to determine best practices for outreach materials and mechanisms.
  • Take photographs, edits new and existing photographs, and maintain photo library.
  • Develop and coordinate logistics for community education and outreach events including workshops and beach walks.
  • Support development and implementation of education and outreach tasks for various environmental programs and projects including Shore Friendly Kitsap and West Sound Partners for Ecosystem Recovery.

  • This position is classified as eligible for overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

  • The established work schedule for this 40 hour-per-week, part time position will be flexible within the normal DCD office hours of 8am until 4:30pm, based on approval of supervisor.

Vacation Leave
New employees are credited with 48 hours of annual leave upon hire and will be begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 360 hours from one calendar year to the next. Annual leave accrual will increase upon tenure, as follows:

Upon completion of 3 years: 15 days per year (10.00 hours per month)
Upon completion of 5 years: 20 days per year (13.33 hours per month)
Upon completion of 10 years: 25 days per year (16.67 hours per month)
Sick Leave
All new hires will be credited with 48 hours of sick leave upon hire and will begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 1200 hours from one calendar year to the next.
