This vacancy is a temporary full-time position with the Department of Land & Natural Resources, Forestry & Wildlife Division.

Salary: $5,076 to $6,177 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)

Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Note: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Duties Summary

The objective of the State's Natural Area Reserves Management program is to preserve the State's unique and representative samples of natural ecosystems and geologic formations. The reserves encompass such diverse ecosystems as bogs, grasslands, marine coastal reefs, forests, lava flows, coastal dunes and snowy ice age terrain. Positions in the series are responsible for the development and implementation of operational management plans which involve a variety of activities to prevent disruption of pristine areas or the degradation of sites from plant, animal, and human intrusion and to recover critically imperiled areas and selected native species.

NRMS IV: Positions at this level Independently plans, coordinates and implements the full range of natural area reserve management activities in developing and maintaining assigned reserve areas. Typical activities include monitoring and managing natural area reserves, providing education and information to groups, individuals, and others regarding reserve management activities, goals and objectives, and providing consultation to other professionals regarding natural resources management and planning activities; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in one of the following:
A. Natural resources management, forestry, wildlife management, or other related resource management majors;
B. Botany, zoology, wildlife biology, entomology, or other related natural resource science majors;
C. Environmental studies with an area of concentration related to natural resource management.

Specialized Experience:
NRMS IV: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in any of the following:
A. Management and conservation of natural resources - forests, water, wildlife, soils, land, rare species preservation, protected area management, or closely related work;
B. Protection of natural resources against fire, disease, insects, weeds, animals, or other depredations;
C. Applied research and analysis directly applicable to the development and management of natural resources; and/or
D. Resource planning for the development and management of natural resources.

Special Requirement - Lautenberg: This vacancy requires the handling of firearms and ammunition. Applicants must meet all Federal and State regulations pertaining to the carrying, use and possession of firearms and ammunition. Under the requirements of the Federal Gun Control Act, applicants may not possess a conviction of domestic violence.

Physical Ability (Lift and Carry): This vacancy requires the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).

Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
