Job Description

This role can be located in any state where we currently operate, within easy access to a major airport.

Who you are: You take pride in working for a company that aligns with your values of environmental stewardship through smarter forest practices. You value working forests and recognize the broader use they offer related to natural climate solutions. You have working knowledge of silviculture, forest inventory, forest growth and yield, forestry operations, and long-term planning. You have experience using Excel, Access, and other tools to generate growth and yield data. You are curious, have an eye for detail, are willing to try new things and ask questions to gain context to help you deliver a solid work product. Because of this experience, you can evaluate your work from a real-world perspective.

You have an undergraduate degree in forestry, biometrics, GIS, or related natural resource field, plus at least two years’ working experience or have completed a few practical internships. Or you may have an advanced degree in forestry, biometrics, geospatial analysis, statistics, economics, or a related field. In either situation, you have experience using analytics to help find solutions for natural resource problems.

What the job is: As the Natural Resource Analyst, you will provide data analysis and support on valuations related to timberland acquisitions and divestitures, conservation and carbon projects, and other potential business opportunities. The work revolves around the development of tabular data starting with basic forest attributes, then flows through processes to calculate timber volumes, carbon credits, and other values, projected into the future, and used to estimate financial returns.

Examples of the daily work associated with the job:

  • Use the details of log merchandising, carbon calculation, discounted cash flow models, and other tools used for valuations and other analytical projects.
  • Manage yield data for specific projects and general yield tables for each of the main divisions (northwest Washington, central Oregon, northwest California, northwest Montana, and the Southeast). Work with each division to use their yield datasets for analysis.
  • Work across various regions and forest types with potential travel to visit operations and active projects.
  • Use Excel, Access, SQL, R, ArcGIS, and related tools to perform technical analysis with forestry data sets to develop yields of various forest cover types for harvest scheduling and carbon modeling.
  • Assist team members from diverse natural resource disciplines, regions, and forest types, with a central focus on the creation, application, and upkeep of yield data and analytical methods.

Compensation: Annual Salary Range: $76,100 - $114,100 per year. The pay range listed is just one component of Green Diamond’s total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive a company-wide annual financial performance bonus, and the opportunity to receive an individual performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.

Green Diamond offers generous benefits including medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing, and an employee assistance program. Reimbursements for work-related safety equipment, and wellness. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 floating (personal) holidays, minimum 10 days’ vacation (or per policy based on experience), 10 days sick leave, 30 days parental leave, 3 days bereavement, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 days family care. Cell phone reimbursement for business use. More benefits information can be found at GreenDiamond.com.
