Your New Role


This position supports the Music Legal and Business Affairs teams in Atlanta and Knoxville, responsible for a variety of music legal and business affairs matters across Warner Bros. Discovery worldwide. The primary job responsibilities focus on music publishing and reporting, music licensing, research related to music rights and usage. This role has frequent, direct contact with internal clients, production partners, music licensors, and other third parties, providing substantive guidance on music rights, licensing and usage


Your Role Accountabilities


  • Music Counseling – Prepare educational materials and attend pre-production meetings to educate our clients on music issues and assist clients with building budgets that will accommodate their music needs
  • Music rights research – Research license agreements to confirm rights granted contemplate any new or extended use.
  • PRO licenses – Assist attorney with research and preparing materials related to negotiations with music collection societies worldwide
  • Music Publishing and Reporting – Review music royalty reports for accuracy and allocation of royalties. Review and submit usage reports and other reporting requirement for music collection societies and licensors.
  • Cue sheets – Review cue sheets for accuracy and submission with sub-publishers and cue sheet management databases, such as Rapid Cue.
  • Music licenses and agreements – Prepare draft agreements from forms for review by attorney
  • Soundtrack releases – Review and/or prepare drafts of soundtrack release agreements for final review by attorney
  • Music production packages – Negotiate and draft agreements with composers and music libraries for music production packages for WBD’s News & Sports clients


Qualifications & Experience


  • Broad understanding of music industry as a whole with a focus on music publishing and licensing.
  • Work experience with a law firm or legal department preferred.
  • Experience with, and contacts at, record labels, music publishers, music libraries, and with artists and managers.
  • Excellent analytical skills, initiative and ability to work autonomously while remaining a collaborative and supportive member of the team.
  • BA/BS degree in music business or pre-law preferred, though not required.
  • Work experience related to music publishing and licensing strongly preferred.
  • Work experience providing in-house support in television or film preferred.
  • Comfortable and competent with technology, from clearance software to internet research to MS Office.
  • Comfortable making decisions independently based on parameters provided by clients or supervisors;
  • Curiosity and eagerness to tackle additional projects as needed, including matters outside of area of expertise, as needed.
  • Highly collaborative, with clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least 5 years working in the music business industry.
  • Fast learner with strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment where meeting deadlines is a priority and handling multiple matters simultaneously is the norm.
