Job Summary: Do you enjoy working with the public in an interactive learning environment? If so, the Inside the Economy® Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis might be the place for you. The Fed is looking for a Museum Associate Specialist to develop high-quality learning experiences, curriculum, and programs, manage our volunteer program, and provide visitor services in the museum, as well as to assist in the operational management and marketing of the museum.
The award-winning Inside the Economy Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is a highly interactive learning experience for adults and youth that deepens their understanding of the economy and empowers them with financial education. The content is delivered through touchscreen exhibits, videos, hands-on interactives and more. Be part of the team that operates one of St. Louis’ newest and most unique museums—a place that brings the economy to life.
Job Duties:
  • Work with teams within the Bank to review and develop content for the museum. Study emerging industry trends and technologies and prototype/pilot them to enhance the museum experience.
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment comprised of 100+ exhibits.
  • Assist in the oversight of the museum gift shop including inventory control, stocking, and accounting.
  • Create strong relationships with local attractions and industry contacts to broaden awareness of the museum and increase traffic. Represent the museum at various promotional events in conjunction with the regional tourism bureau and other similar entities.
  • Provide high quality services to the museum operations including coordinating group tours, scheduling museum ambassadors, greeting and providing information to museum visitors, answering questions about the work of the Federal Reserve and the museum, and ensuring a quality visitor experience.
  • Track and evaluate key metrics including museum attendance, group information and visitor feedback information.
  • Assist in marketing the museum to schools and groups. Provide formal presentations about the museum internally and externally.
  • Create, update, and facilitate educational programs for student groups visiting the museum. Responsible for researching and understanding current standards in economic education and personal finance and develop programs, lessons and learning materials for student groups and walk-in visitors.Evaluate programs when necessary to maximize educational value and visitor entertainment.
  • Perform the recruitment, training, and daily scheduling of 100+ museum ambassadors, which is comprised of Bank employees.
Salary: $75,300 to $95,900
Qualifications:
  • B.A., B.S. or other baccalaureate/undergraduate degree with major or specialized courses in: Education, Museum Studies, Hospitality, Business, or related degree, or commensurate experience.
  • At least three years of experience working in a museum or hospitality/tourist industry facility or in a teaching or educational setting.
  • Intermediate computer skills in programs, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience in museum/educational program organization, facilitation, and improvement experience.
  • Intermediate project management skills to include organization, planning, and execution.
  • Excellent verbal communication and public presentation skills, including ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including vendors, Bank officials, museum guests, and employees.
  • Intermediate writing skills to include exhibit-specific content generation and editing.
  • Experience with researching, writing, and developing educational lessons or materials that meet standards.
  • Experience with running and maintaining visitor services staff or a volunteer program.
  • Preferred interest in the application and maintenance of emerging technologies, interactive elements, and exhibits.
