About The Faculty Of Medicine

Position Purpose (reporting to):


Supports the existing infrastructure for faculty/service’s Web sites to meet business and operational needs of the organization. Supports development and deployment of Web pages, software and applications. Ensures quality work is performed in adherence with the University’s policies and standards. The work is performed mostly at the back end and as part of a communications and web content management team.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:


Web Design and Development: Participates in the development of Web sites and other Web-based custom software and applications to support the needs of the designated faculty/service. Collaborates with team members to identify and develop information architecture, design and layout that will best support website users in obtaining accurate, meaningful and current information. Ensures quality work is performed in adherence with the University’s policies and standards.


Web site support: Ensures that faculty/service’s Web sites are well designed and functioning properly, with minimum down time and maximum ease of navigation and speed of access. Adapts the Web site to the most updated rules of accessibility and responsiveness.


Website Monitoring: Records and documents hardware and software problems, actions and solutions in order to facilitate the monitoring of recurring issues and design issues to have a readily available reference for similar future problems.


Web Usability: Reviews and analyzes Web site usage trends and recommends new software to enhance the use of Web applications and to improve the quality of the services provided to Web users.


Technical Advice and Collaboration: Acts as the resources person for the faculty/service’s web-related issues and provides advice on matters relating to this field. Exchanges expertise with peers to promote the use and acceptance of the University’s standards and ensures consistent and user-friendly design of all Web tools. Acts as back up to technical team for maintaining the faculty/service’s Web server. Evaluates technical and human resource needs required for specific tasks or projects, prioritizes requests and seeks help and support when needed.


New technology assessment: Participates in technology assessments and analysis and provides recommendations in order to improve the operation of web-based tools and applications.


Documentation: Develops application documentation requirements for functions, modifications, backups and operating procedures. Ensures reliable documentation is available to assist others in making effective, informed decisions.

Essential Qualifications:


  • College Diploma in Programming, Web Development or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing, and maintaining of Web applications and tools.


Other Qualifications:


  • Bilingual - French and English (written and spoken).
  • Experience in configuring, maintaining and administering web servers.
  • Experience in web project management, understanding client needs and defining technical requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize own work and respect strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques and best practices in a Web environment.
  • Knowledge of established University standards and priorities relating to Web-based tool design and implementation.
  • Experience with object oriented programming languages and with database creation and administration.
  • Experience working in a client service based environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to users in a non-technical manner.
  • Knowledge of Web development using various technologies, programming languages and operating systems
