Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures of patients in accordance with departmental protocols. Performs all procedures which are offered by the department following exam protocols on neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Optimize computer images to enhance diagnostic information for Radiologists interpretation. Provides direct patient care that ensures quality, efficiency and well-being of each patient. Collaborates with members of the health care team to promote total patient care, demonstrating commitment to the mission, vision and values of SJH. Delivers services according to the scope of service for Diagnostic Imaging and participates in Performance Improvement activities. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Procedures
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all MRI equipment. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand at all times prior to patient care.
  • Consistently demonstrates competence in performing all MRI procedures offered by the department.
  • Demonstrates competency in venipuncture and IV starts. Questions each patient to ensure MRI safety and performs visual preventative safety inspections prior to any person entering the MRI exam room.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of cross-sectional and sagittal anatomy.
Documentation and Supplies
  • Prepares examination for interpretation by Radiologist to include exam QA, scanning appropriate documents and sending to PACS.
  • Confirms completion of all consents needed.
  • Obtains and examines order requisition to ensure an adequate indication for procedure is documented to correlate with the MRI exam to be preformed. Regularly consults with others as necessary to verify appropriate procedure to be completed.
  • Accurately completes all paperwork and supply charging. Charges exam, supplies and medications accurately at the time of use.
Patient Care
  • Transports patients safely to and from the department. Demonstrates the ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations.
  • Thoroughly explains the procedure in an empathetic and caring way to alleviate patient anxiety. Assures patient's questions are answered prior to beginning exam.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care of multiple patients with varying levels of acuity in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Is courteous, pleasant and professional in all patient communications.
  • Ensures patient received safe, quality care.
  • Properly performs hand-off communications when a patient has left or returned to the unit. Reports any changes in a patient's condition or behavior to the appropriate physician or nursing personnel.
Co-worker and Staff Advocacy
  • Assists, teaches and answers questions for colleagues.
  • Presents self as a resource to co-workers and the organization.
  • Advocates and supports SJH staff and department co-workers. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist others as requested; regularly assists in other areas of the department such as reception duties, clerical duties, and other assignments as requested.
  • Mentors new staff.

  • Uses time for departmental advantage.
  • Understands the importance of patient confidentiality and HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Assumes responsibility for reading department communications/e-mails on a daily basis and attending staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates good judgment by showing an appreciation of cost factors in the routine performance of duties; maximizes cost efficiency.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for knowing and adhering to departmental policies and procedures while performing in a professional manner at all times.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education/Work Experience
Required: Prior MRI experience. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and phone etiquette skills.
Preferred: 2 years working as an MRI technologist in a hospital setting. Experience scanning on the Siemens Aera 1.5T. CT experience and advanced licensure in CT.
Required Licenses: ARRT Registry examination in Radiography and Wyoming Radiologic Technology Licensure. ARRT advanced level certification in MRI must be obtained within a year of hire. BLS required at time of hire.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions: High field magnetic exposure; radiation exposure. Hospital setting. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements: 80% of shift standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift 10 pounds overhead. Intermittent sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, overhead lifting and computer use
