As a mortgage loan officer your role is to guide customers through the application process and answer any questions that may arise along the way. Experience is preferred but not necessary. Some of our most successful loan officers had no prior experience beforehand! It’s not about “crunching numbers” in order to be successful in this industry; it’s about getting to know your borrower and having their best interests at heart. All states use the NMLS system to process licensing requests. As a mortgage loan originator, you will need to:

• Associate your NMLS account with an employer.
• Complete your Pre-License Education
• Visit the NMLS website for a complete list of state requirements.
• -TRAINING PROVIDED
• Apply for an NMLS account and ID number.
• Complete background checks and pay all fees.

Each state has different requirements for licensure. It is your responsibility to make sure that you meet the education requirements for the states that you want to do business in. This usually means that you must complete 20 hours of pre-license education at a minimum. Some states have additional requirements. You will need to complete state-specific courses for each of the states that you wish to work in.
