Job Summary:
The Center of Population Health Accountability (CPHA) is founded on a bold strategic vision to provide integrated “whole-person” physical and behavioral health services, including partnerships to address the social determinants of health (poverty, housing, transportation, food insecurity, etc.) that affect a person’s health and well-being. Through a network of community health partnerships, the CPHA emphasizes early intervention and preventive care, both in conventional health care setting and non-traditional community locations, such as neighborhood pharmacies, barber and beauty shops, schools, outreach events, mobile units and telehealth.

Wayne Health is a non-profit, multi-specialty academic group practice with nearly 400 dedicated physicians and advanced practice providers in 50 medical specialties offering a full spectrum of care, from birth to end-of-life, for individuals and families throughout southeastern Michigan.

The Mobile Health Unit Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care to patients following established Departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mobile COVID Specific Duties:
  • Assist in taking on special projects for the Mobile Health Unit in coordination with the Quality and Patient Safety Director
  • Peforms lab sign offs for all COVID-19 mobile testing units
  • Provides initial medical assessments as needed
  • Submits and signs off on incident reports that occur at mobile testing sites
  • Assist with onsite orientation and training on clinical procedures and sign off on competency checklists
  • Assist with developing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Acts as the clinical site lead
  • Perform screening procedures
Registered Nurse Specific Duties:
  • Instructs or assist patients in specimen collection, tests and procedures.
  • Recognize abnormal laboratory values and test results and notify physician appropriately.
  • Answers telephone utilizing the principle of good telephone etiquette when providing phone coverage and always conduct one's self in a professional manner.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Directs calls, takes accurate messages, relays messages/information to the appropriate personnel/staff member and answers inquires.
  • Accurately performs and documents in the medical record patient’s vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respirations) height, weight and lists all allergies.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately in life threatening situations.
  • Triage patient telephone calls utilizing the nursing process.
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Assure all medication orders are charted in medevant or EMR.
  • Provides education to patients and families.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Prepares patient for physical examination.
  • Reviews and sorts laboratory/test results daily.
  • Record if patient has Advanced Directives or if educational material is requested.
  • Responsible and accountable for own practice within the Nursing Practice Act and accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • In conjunction with the attending physician, contacts patients regarding test results and recommended follow up.
  • Maintains and protects patient confidentiality according to Departmental and HIPPA guidelines.
  • Promotes guest relation, anticipates and responds to needs of others, provides assistance in a courteous timely manor, treat others with care and respect, maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
  • Documents in the medical record complete and accurate summary of care given inclusive of medications administered, procedures performed and appropriate observation.
  • Schedule special laboratory testing, x-rays, consultations with other subspecialty areas, and admissions to hospital as directed, etc.
  • Maintain clinical area stock to ensure the necessary supplies and pharmaceuticals are available as well as ensuring the necessary equipment and instruments are available and notify all problems to the Clinical Administrator.
  • Ensure an efficient flow of patients accommodating the needs of the patients and/or providers as they arise.
  • Checks diagnostic laboratory forms and physician orders on patient’s record for accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs venipuncture and IV therapy according to the physician orders or patient emergencies.
  • Checks encounter forms for level of service, diagnosis, faculty signature, and referring physician if required.
  • Performs general nursing care to patients.
  • Reinforces the physician's discharge instructions and follow up appointments as well as, calling in prescription renewals to pharmacies for patients as directed by physicians.
  • Alerts physician or nurse of any abnormality in vital signs or appearance for further reassessment.
  • Contacts the appropriate department or physician’s office when information is missing.
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
  • Knowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred
  • Graduation from accredited school of nursing
  • 1-2 years experience in an Ambulatory Care Setting preferred
  • Current Michigan RN licensure to practice as registered nurse

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain productive working relationships with physicians, patients and their families, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care
  • Maintains professional effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public
Safety Requirements:
  • Compliance with Departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedule:
  • 40-hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required
