Job Description

The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Responsible for carrying out a full range of mine surveying functions at the mine site and surrounding areas. Determine precise location and measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for mine operations, drill patterns, planning, and other survey purposes. Produce accurate results that will be used for planning, production and contractor payment. Complete survey projects in a timely and efficient manner. Position requires direct involvement with Engineering and Operations departments.

Essential Functions

  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Responsible for surveying in the open-pit, including drill pattern layout, ore control layout, pit toes and crests, ramp slopes, construction projects, reconnaissance surveying, and exploration/geotechnical drill hole locations.
  • Daily slope stability monitoring and related tasks.
  • Establish reference lines and lines for blasting patterns.
  • Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform functions of the job.
  • Establish grade for bench levels and ramp slopes.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Check and maintain all survey equipment.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Work closely with Mine Operations supervisors to perform special requests/design conformance.
  • Responsible for accurately posting daily production, weekly 3D model updates, and month-end production data used for maps and plans.
  • Perform various survey tasks with the use of fixed wing and quadcopter drones including topographic surveys, stockpile volumes, and aerial photography.

Education and Experience

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.

Experience

  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Knowledge of computers and programs to plot surveying data preferred (AutoCAD and Excel).
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Possession of a license to fly or ability to gain a license to fly fixed wing and quadcopter drones preferred.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
  • Knowledge of survey theory and instruments preferred.
