Job Description
Job Summary
Maintain residential and commercial water meters, valves and related infrastructure with a focus on large meters. Perform duties to insure that meters, valves and related infrastructure are functioning properly. This includes testing accuracy of meters, replacing meters, fixing yokes that hold meter in place, cleaning maintaining and exercising valves and other maintenance activities. Set up road for traffic control when necessary upon entering vaults. Complete service and work orders as assigned by Support Services Division Manager. Communicate with customers and the general public on a frequent level. General Qualification Requirements

At Least Two Years Of Job-related Prior Experience Preferred.
The requirements of this position provide that the employee work in a safety sensitive manner and should carry out his/her duties as such. Prior Work Experience:
Education And Training
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licenses, Certifications, Etc.
Valid Utah driver's license required.
Utah Water Distribution Grade IV Certification Preferred. Background Knowledge
Requires a basic knowledge in repair of residential and commercial meters Requires a basic knowledge of the water and wastewater industry. Requires a basic knowledge of the District's products and services; basic knowledge of operating policies and procedures. Requires a basic knowledge of safety set-up for confined space entry. Performance Expectations: Ability to repair meters.
Required Skills And Abilities
This includes replacing chambers, registers, gaskets and reading apparatuses. Must be able to make logical decisions using generally recognized skills and techniques. Must be able to provide direct service to the District customers when dealing with meter problems or other matters in a courteous manner. Must have communication skills with the ability to communicate with the Division Manager, Customer Service Staff, Director, and the general public. Must be able to function under the direction of others and use common field skills to complete daily work. Must have the ability to work independently and report outcomes to Meter Maintenance Foreman. Must perform all job tasks in compliance with GHID safety policies and procedures.
Must be able to rely on policy, written guidance or internal discussions to resolve problems. Must have verbal skills to communicate effectively with employees and external business contacts. Ability to learn and use radio and handheld meter reading (AMI) components and accurately enter data. Ability to kneel, climb a ladder and enter and exit underground vaults.
Ability to learn GHID geographical area and locate meters by addresses and/or descriptive notes. Ability to learn meter locations and open and close meter valves. Ability to use hand tools and atmospheric tester. Ability to operate and use District's two-way radio device. Must have basic skills with general office equipment, computers and computer software. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less.
Ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
Frequently required to perform duties outdoors in all types of weather including extreme heat and cold. Could also be required to enter damp vaults after safety requirements have been met.

Overall Effort and Work Location: Must be able to withstand occasional periods of moderate physical or mental activity. Must be able to work a predictable and consistent schedule. May experience loud noises when driving or reading meters in the field. Occasionally may enter vaults and be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be required to wear a respirator.
