Weather is who we are and what we do at Local 5. Our team of meteorologists is looking for a dynamic and engaging Weekend Meteorologist and Multi-Skilled Journalist who has a passion for winning severe weather. You’ll experience it all from tornado outbreaks, Derechos, and blizzards to brilliant Spring blooms, hot summer days, and bright-color Fall leaves.
In addition to the forecasting credentials, the ideal candidate is also a storyteller and ready to shoot, write and edit impactful news stories that reflect and improve our community.
Responsibilities:
What You’ll Do:
- Produce clean, creative, and informative graphics to tell the weather story
- Front stories live from the field or studio with a strong on-camera delivery and the ability to ad-lib
- Develop contacts and sources within the community to help with original storytelling and breaking news reporting
- Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary
- Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts on multiple platforms
- Develop story ideas, write, shoot, and edit news stories for all of WOI platforms

- Must actively participate in social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Exceptional online and social media skills.
- Strong communication skills (written/oral) for on-air delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to provide accurate weather forecasts using the latest weather technology in a multi-platform environment.
- Minimum of 1 year of on-air experience is preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Meteorology preferred.
Work Environment: Office
Physical Demands: Sedentary work
Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
