Do you eat, drink, and breathe the weather? Do you love sharing the big weather story, whether that is on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, a mobile app, or on TV? Do you love explaining the why and the how of weather, far beyond current radar and the 7 day forecast?
KUTV, the CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City is looking for a Meteorologist to join its' award-winning, First Alert Weather Team. This position will be responsible for providing content on all KUTV platforms.
Utah is a dynamic state to cover weather, providing significantly different forecasts for different parts of the state. Utah just endured a record winter, after years of experiencing a long-term drought. We want someone who is hungry to learn the impact the weather has on our communities, from the challenges for the Great Salt Lake, our winter sports industry, and the overall impact on our fast-growing state.
Job Responsibilities:
- Forecast, produce, and present clear and concise forecasts that connect with viewers
- Issue warnings and alerts
- Be part of the news team ensemble where you will do non-weather things like trending topics, community events, interviews and traffic, as assigned.
- Produce graphics and maps
- Make public appearances on behalf of the station
- Working with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations
- Developing content and graphics for on-air, web, and extensive social media
- Report live during weather events
- Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms
- Report from community events and breaking news
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record of covering severe weather on all platforms
- Extensive digital savvy
- Willingness to come in off duty when severe weather threatens our area
- Team player. Someone who understands it's about the team, not one individual
- Proven ability to effectively report live in the field
- Previous on-air experience presenting weather and news information is required
- Excellent writing skills
- Willingness and ability to work any shift assigned
- Meteorology degree required, national accredited weather seals preferred
- High energy and engaging personality
