Job Description

1. Responsibility

Required Skills:

  • 1 Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner
  • 3 Able to meet physical requirements of the job.
  • 4 Knowledge of Lock out/Tag out Process & Industrial knowledge of tools and ability to use hand and power tools is preferred
  • 2 Able to understand oral and written communication

2. Additional Requirements:

  • 5 Complete our training for Tools related to the job specific tasks.
  • 4 Complete our training for Industrial Equipment
  • 1 Must be able to reliably report for work at remote job sites.
  • 3 Complete our Jobsite Code of Safe Practice Training
  • 2 Must demonstrate quality workmanship

2. Tasks

While not all inclusive, the following is list of task to be performed. Activities will be performed under supervision and after required training:

  • Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres.
  • Verify good working order of all equipment, tools, and machinery prior to use.
  • Erect steel frames: Connect columns, beams, girders, cee and zee secondary members with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
  • Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place, using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members.
  • Learn proper use and maintenance of various tools.
  • Engage in morning safety tailgate meeting.
  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sized of material required.
  • Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting as needed.
  • Using hand tools, pull, push or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place.
  • Install fiberglass insulation
  • Make sure all pieces are fitted properly and complete repairs as necessary.
  • Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, including cables, pulleys and hooks, to structural steel members, to ensure easy and safe movement.
  • Follow all Safety policies and procedures.
  • Must work at heights of 30 feet or higher above ground level.
  • Install building accessories; doors, windows, roof skylights, vents and wall louvers.
  • Install, cut and trim to fit sheet metal trim and flashing.
  • Install Metal Panels - Roof and Wall Systems.
  • Perform all duties assigned by the Project Manager, Superintendent or Foreman.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plum bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
  • Clean up job site at the end of the day and ensure all equipment is properly secure.
  • Help identify, mitigate, or eliminate hazards on the jobsite.

2. Performance Measurement

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work outside for long periods of time. All personnel are required to work in conditions where physical demands can consist of the following:

  • 7 Working while bending at the waist, stooping, lying down, twisting, seated or standing.
  • 1 Sitting
  • 3 Squatting
  • 6 Grasping, pulling, and pushing objects.
  • 4 Raising and Lowering objects from one level to another.
  • 5 Carrying objects, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder.
  • 2 Standing

2. Description

This is an entry level position meant to train an employee with no experience in Metal Building Erection. The position works closely with experienced erectors to gain skills and knowledge for erecting metal buildings. Virtually all training occurs on a jobsite during erection of metal buildings.

This position will generally learn the following skills:

Safe use of personal protective gear, hand tools, power tools, and equipment necessary for the erection of heavy steel members and steel sheet cladding of metal buildings. Raise, place, and connect steel columns, girders, and other structural members to form completed structures. Install exterior metal wall and roof panels systems, insulated metal panels and blanket insulation. Install building accessories: doors, windows, roof skylights, vents and wall louvers. Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Opportunities for advancement depending upon performance.
