Summary: The Medical Scribe is responsible for recording a Physician’s interactions with patients and assisting with clerical duties related to medical documentation. Duties include recording a doctor’s interactions with patients, filling out paperwork, summaries and referral letters after a visit and entering data into medical records.
Education: High School Diploma required. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy is strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical experience and use of medical terminology
Essential Job Functions
  • Perform other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned
  • Compliance with hospital, and ProScribe policies, including those related to HIPAA.
  • Update patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information in the patient record
  • Monitor the duration of basic lab results and screening procedures
  • Entering the patient room with the physician during patient visit to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing EMR applications
  • Ensure medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation to include: Scribe name, title, and doctor working for, as well as specific date and time entry
  • Prepare medical record documentation/charts for physicians
  • Prepare and send all documentation to physician for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office and EMR experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in medical terminology
  • Understanding of and commitment to the appropriate protection of confidential patient information
  • Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately and grammatically correct
  • Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written documents
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephone, calculators, etc.
Work Environment: Position is primarily in a well-lighted office environment. Must have ability to work in fast-paced environment.
Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
