We are seeking a skilled and experienced Outpatient Medical Coder responsible for ensuring the accurate assignment of Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes, ICD diagnoses, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), modifiers, and quantities based on medical record documentation, whether in paper or electronic format, for outpatient encounters. In addition to coding responsibilities, this role involves training and educating our healthcare staff on coding-related matters and contributing significantly to coding compliance initiatives.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Possession Of One Or More Recognized Certifications From The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) And/or The American Academy Of Professional Coders (AAPC), Such As
Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Certified Coder Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) with the appropriate level of experience.
Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in an outpatient setting, such as a physician's office or ambulatory surgery center, within the last five years, with a proven track record of accurately assigning E&M, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Experience in multiple specialties, including but not limited to Family Practice, Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, and OB/GYN, that require proficiency in ICD, E&M, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Coding experience in ancillary specialties (e.g., PT/OT, Radiology, Lab, Nutrition) that typically do not use E&M codes will not be considered as qualifying experience.
Coding, auditing, and training focused on specialties like home health, skilled nursing facilities, and rehabilitation care will not be considered as qualifying experience.
Coding experience limited to adapting codes to specific payer requirements for the business office (insurance billing, accounts receivable) will not be considered as qualifying.
Skills And Abilities
Excellent computer and communication skills are essential for this role.
Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
Prior Military Treatment Facility (MTF) coding experience is desirable.
Additional Requirements
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or documented exceptions.
A security clearance (U.S. citizenship required) must be obtained prior to starting the position.
Salary: $ 19.00 25.00 Per Hour
