POSITION Medical Assistant/Clinical Assistant
- Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.
- Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
- Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
- Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
- Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
- Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
- Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals and/or authorizations and documents in EMR.
- Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
- Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patient’s medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow.
- Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
- Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager.
- Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
- Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.
- Assists to meet patient’s medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow within the scope of successful completion of training.

- Prepares equipment and assists physician during examinations and treatment, if needed.
- Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
- Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
- Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager.

- Attends training programs as required.
- Monitors patients’ vital signs and assists with in-office procedures as determined by manager, rendering professional care for the comfort and wellbeing of each patient.
- Provides counseling as necessary, answering patients’ questions and concerns within the limits dictated by each physician.
- Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently within the scope of successful completion of training.
