MEDICAL ASSISTANT


POSITION SUMMARY Performs general nursing care to patients under supervision, including assisting with exams or procedures, patient education, and maintenance of medical records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.
  • Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
  • Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
  • Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  • Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals and/or authorizations and documents in EMR.
  • Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
  • Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patient’s medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow.
  • Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS


Education/Certification/License


Medical Assistant - Degree/diploma/certification in Medical Assisting or previous MA experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Team player, professional, and customer service oriented. Proficient computer skills including EMR, highly organized, ability to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment. Able to work with diverse patient base of all ages. Assist with clinical procedures specific to department. Perform basic back office skills including medication administration, injections, bandaging, and accurately collect height, weight, and BP. In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the physician and require minimal supervision. Prior experience is a plus.

CLINICAL ASSISTANT


POSITION SUMMARY Performs general care to patients under supervision, including maintenance of medical records, rooming patients, taking vitals, cleaning, and stocking rooms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assists to meet patient’s medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow within the scope of successful completion of training.
  • Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.
  • Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
  • Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Observes and maintains records on patients’ care, condition, reaction and progress.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physician during examinations and treatment, if needed.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
  • Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager.

  • Attends training programs as required.
  • Monitors patients’ vital signs and assists with in-office procedures as determined by manager, rendering professional care for the comfort and wellbeing of each patient.
  • Provides counseling as necessary, answering patients’ questions and concerns within the limits dictated by each physician.
  • Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently within the scope of successful completion of training.


Position Requirements


Education/Certification/License


Qualified candidate would possess relevant medical assisting experience and medical Terminology is preferred. Patient care background and related experience is desired.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Good collaboration and teamwork skills. Professional and customer service oriented. Proficient computer skills including EMR, highly organized, ability to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment. Able to work with diverse patient base of all ages. Perform basic back office skills including collecting height, weight, and BP. In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the MA, RN, or LPN and require minimal supervision. Prior experience is a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy, and compassion. Effective communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking, and reading comprehension. Fast and adaptive problem-solving abilities, Keen attention to detail and good understanding of patient care policies and regulations.
