Position Summary


Under the clinical supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Medical Assistant is responsible for


performing select non-complex medical interventions on the health care unit and housing units


safely, accurately, and according to standard procedure. Medical Assistants work under the


direct and indirect clinical guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Utilizes


electronic medical record system as applicable throughout the scope of duties and


responsibilities.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities


  • Obtain and monitor vital signs of infirmary/medical unit patients.
  • Implement medical plan through administering medications and interventions in accordance

  • Check expiration dates on medications and supplies.
  • Provide appropriate first aid and CPR. Report findings to the nurse and/or physician.
  • Inventory and restock first aid kits, supply rooms, etc.
  • Clean, package and sterilize instruments.
  • Make suggestions for improving work conditions to the Director of Nursing and Health

Job Requirements


LICENSING: None


CERTIFICATION: Current, unrestricted certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or


Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Current CPR certification


EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program


Preferred Experience


2 years pervious clinical experience; correctional experience preferred
