About The Team


Works closely with the Medical Assistant (MA) Supervisor to coordinate clinical skill reviews. Activities may include but not limited to new hire MA skill check, skills training events, clinical support staff training and development, MA Apprenticeship development and ongoing training, or clinic specific initiatives. Collaborates with department manager and supervisor to evaluate current practice and initiate best practice quality improvement efforts.


Required Education And Experience


  • The ability to produce and train job aids for the MA team.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience directly training/mentoring new MA’s and MA students.
  • Have the ability to redirect training when the MA is struggling, keeping a confidential and professional approach when correction of training MA is needed.
  • Graduate of an approved certified medical assistant program.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in an education setting.


Required Licenses, Certifications And/or Registration


  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current Washington State Department of Health Medical Assistant Certification and licensure.


Job Specific Duties


  • Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare patients for examination, measure vital signs, provide administrative support and work closely with doctors, nurses and MAs within the MA scoop of practice.
  • Maintain an ongoing system for clinical education assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation that ensures competence and enhances the performance and/or professional development of clinical staff. Activities may include remediation, certification and mentoring.
  • Assists with treatments and procedures within MA scope of practice. Assembles all needed supplies. Ensures that adequate consent has been obtained by provider prior to all procedures when necessary. Notifies patients of test results, as directed and requested by providers. Documents presenting complaint; follows clinic policies and procedures for rooming patient and completing vital signs. Prepares patients for provider’s exam. Maintains current information on the patient’s health/care status.
  • Coordinates clinical orientation of new staff to the organization; develops and coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
  • Administers immunizations within MA scope of practice and under supervision of, and as ordered by, the medical provider. (The administration of controlled substances by health care assistants is prohibited by state law.) Ensures that all medications administered are signed by the delegator and the medical assistant and sent to the Department of Health.
  • Authors, implements, teaches and evaluates clinical education and competency assessment materials, outcomes and activities. Plans, prepares and maintains evidence-based educational materials; ensure materials are accurate and relevant to the target audience and within the AAMA testing guidelines. Maintains complete and accurate records.
  • Assists in identifying clinical education opportunities and assessing educational needs for clinical areas of the organization. Monitors the effectiveness of training/educational programs. Provides feedback to the appropriate manager/supervisor regarding individual performance in training/educational programs.
  • Performs patient care within the MA license scope of practice. Carries out providers’ orders accurately and in a timely manner. Facilitates patient flow to ensure optimize clinic operations and patient experience. If wait times are apparent, communicates to patients, providers, and coworkers.
  • Collaborate with department managers and supervisor to initiate education and improvement projects as determined by regulatory compliance changes and quality improvement initiatives.


This is a union position with a pay range of $23.43 - $32.70 per hour, depending on experience.
