Job Description
We are seeking a Medical Assistant who will function as an integral member of the clinic team. The MA is responsible for direct patient care and clinic operations, including the maintenance of the environment of care and supplies/equipment. Shares the responsibility with other clinicians in ensuring a safe environment for the patient while providing quality care and a positive patient experience. The MA functions clinically under the authority of the physician within the scope of their certification. Reports to Clinic Manager, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and direction of staff, orientation and annual assessment of competencies and the assurance to clinic specific policies and procedures. MAs may be asked to float between other JHU Dermatology clinics where care is similar and/or competence is evaluated suggesting the individual is capable of providing complete and correct patient care.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care.
Operate electronic monitoring equipment.
Input and obtain data, determine appropriate information and resources needed related to clinical situation; organize and summarize information.
Communicates with patients, family, physicians and other health care team members in order to foster optimal quality of outpatient care.
Uses general physiological monitoring equipment including but not limited to vital signs machine (automated & manual) height, weight, cardiac monitor, ECG, Point-of care equipment, sterilization equipment, scopes and emergency equipment, etc.
Identify signs indicative of a changing patient care situation and notifies the appropriate individual based on the issue.
Identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement in order to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.
Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, takes appropriate clinical actions using available resources, to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, and staff. Independently prioritizes daily tasks and assignments. Follows established policies and procedures.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certification/registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP).
Current CPR certification. Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a CMA, preferably in dermatology.
Experience using EPIC.
Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/ registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire. Exam fees will be paid by the department. If a retest is required, associated fees are paid by the employee
Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross required
Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
